    Description

    This auction is for two beautiful old sterling silver thimbles made by
    Simons Brothers Company, Philadelphia, PA, that was founded in 1839 by George W. Simons
    .  Decagon band thimble on the left has alternate panels: five panels with flower and circles, five plain panels one of which
    marked sterling and 11 (size) and another monogrammed with"H".
    This thimble from the 1880's stamped inside the apex with
    the script style letter
    "S inside the shield". T
    himble is in
    good condition with some age and use wear, with no holes.
    Utilitarian thimble on the right from 1920's has anthemion design rim and
    s
    tamped outside
    12(size) on the band and
    stamped inside the apex with
    the script style letter
    "S inside the shield",

    One like this is shown on p. 101 (plate 43) of Gay Ann Rogers' book "American Silver Thimbles".
