GIRL SCOUT MEMBERSHIP PINS
OLD EAGLE LOGO, 1940 TO 1980+
There are many design
variations
of the Girl Scout membership pin. Starting in 1942 as WWII raged on, the pins began being made with steel, and in a few years, after more and more steel was used, they became magnetic.  (Magnetic pins are very expensive and are NOT included in this series.)  Type 6 pins mostly look the same from the front as the Type 5
, but the backs ALL show the design in reverse.
This listing includes all the early steel pins
before they became magnetic
.  As we moved into the early 1950s, metal once again became necessary for the Korean War effort, and it is thought that the stamped pins with the upside down G hallmark are from that time (also made in Non-Magnetic material.)  These are still considered type 6 because they had the same details as Type 5, except for the steel.  Dating at this point becomes difficult, but at some point in the late 1950s, the details and hallmarks became varied.  Hopefully to simplify, is the following:
Type 6
:
1940s to 1950.
Continued with the same details as Type 5 with 4 stars, 11 wing feathers and 7 distinct arrows. The difference is that
the design shows through to the back
and eventually it becomes magnetic. There are nine variations of Type 6.
Not all are listed here.
Type 7
:  1980s. Still 4 stars, but the
arrows become difficult to count.
Instead of 11 wing feathers there
are now only 9
.
Most important is that the outside edge of the trefoil becomes less and less prominent, and in some cases it is completely smooth to the edge.
At some point, after 2000, but probably closer to 2010, the manufacturer’s Hallmark changes to a T and some of the design features of the type 5 become apparent.
You can see nice definition on the neck and tail feathers, although there are now only 8 wing feathers.
The legs are very straight instead of bent, and although the arrows are distinct with arrow-like tips, there is some odd spacing between the shaft and the tips.
Girl Scouts will be happy to see the return of a distinctive bald eagle.
